The client, their needs, their project
You don’t choose a pergola from a catalogue. What determines the range of options is the questions you ask yourself beforehand: what do you want to use this space for, at what time of day are you there, does the bay window get too hot in July, and does the wind blow round that corner of the house?
We always take this time, as a matter of course, and we sometimes recommend something other than what was originally requested — or say that a particular site is not suitable. A project that gets off to a bad start ends up costing more in the long run, not just in the quote.
